Barley (AKA Boris)       Status:  Adoptable Personality: Sweet, mellow   Animal's Origin: Shelter Date received: 11/27/2009 Age: 12 Years       Gender:  Male     Color:  Fawn Altered: Yes   Weight:  Approx 15   Medical condition:  Partially deaf, weakness in rear legs, dry eye, incontinent Other:    Special needs:  Needs daily meds for dry eye   Description: Little Barley was found wandering the streets in East Los Angeles, sick, scared and starving. Pug Rescue, with the help of several individuals in the Los Angeles area rescued Barley from certain death in the shelter. Barley was transported to San Diego and is now in foster care. Barley is about 12 years old and has weak back legs, is partially deaf, and doesn't see very well. Barley has been treated for skin conditions and ear infections, and his coat is now plush and soft. Like many pugs, Barley suffers from dry eye and needs daily eye drops to keep his eyes healthy. Barley loves to snuggle on the couch, but can't get up and down by himself, so he needs assistance to snuggle on your lap. He tries to get outside to go potty and he knows how to use a dog door, but his foster family has found it is best if he wears a belly band while in the house, because he doesn't always make it outside. Barley seems to be prone to urinary tract infections, so a belly band is helpful then, too. He also often does not seem aware that he is pooping, and will have accidents in the house as he is walking around. His foster family has gotten him into a good routine, so that mostly he goes outside, but still, those "out of potty" experiences happen. Poor little man. Barley gets along with other dogs, but does not like to compete for attention, so if another dog is in the way, he will just wander off. He is a sweet little man, who is very lucky to have found a loving, dedicated foster home that is willing to tend to his many needs.
