| Answers to Commonly Asked Questions |
Q: Can I come down to see the dogs you have for adoption?
A: We are not a "place" but a collection of volunteers living throughout San Diego County. We have Pugs living in foster homes, but we do not disturb their peace and comfort with visits from prospective adoptive parents.
We try to match people up with Pugs based upon what you think you would like in terms of color, age, temperment, and sex after you have completed an Adoption Application and have had a house visit. You are then put on a waiting list for the Pug you want and our Adoptions Administrator will call you when this Pug comes in.
Q: Can I have a puppy for my son's birthday/for Christmas/etc.?
A: Most people do not give up $800 puppies until they are adult dogs and start causing problems. This means that we hardly ever get puppies. You may wait up to one year to get a puppy if you want to adopt from us.
In addition, as mentioned above, we do not have a ready supply of Pugs at a central kennel. We pride ourselves in placing Pugs quickly. We cannot predict when we will get the exact Pug you want and thus cannot guarantee that you will get a Pug by a specific date. Your best bet is to fill out an Adoption Application and get on a waiting list as soon as possible.
Q: I live out of state or country, can I still adopt a Pug from you?
A: We have many people who want pugs in San Diego, so we have made the decision to only adopt to people in the immediate San Diego area. In addition, we do not have the resources to travel and do housechecks in other states. We cannot adopt to people without interviewing them and seeing the environment in which the
Pug will live.
Q: I live in California but not in San Diego or nearby, can I still adopt a Pug from you?
A: In general, no, for the same reasons as stated above. There are several great Pug rescue organizations in California, including "Little Angels" and "Pugs 'n Pals" who work with a wider variety of people than we do. We have adopted to people as far North as the edge of Riverside County,
as far Northeast as Desert Palms, and as far East as El Centro.
Q: I found a Pug on the street, can I bring him/her to you?
A: We cannot take Pugs that people "find" running loose. This may seem strange as a rescue group, however, like it or not, dogs are considered people's property. It is against the law to take someone's dog without their permission. The only organizations authorized to take a dog are the Humane Society or Animal Control Office.
So, if you find a Pug, take him/her to your nearest shelter. The shelter will wait at least 72 hours for the owners to contact them and then they will make the Pug available for adoption. If the Pug is not adopted within two weeks, we have an understanding with each shelter to call us and we will come and get the Pug.
